Pflueger “Summit 1993” pre 1940 and mint bag

Description

This is a low production non “L” Summit 1993 reel by Pflueger. There is no letter “L” engraved into the reel. My thanks for Miller’s History of Akron and Summit Fishing reels for affirming the dates through various features. In 1935 Pflueger introduced the “1993 L” version Summit. “L” stood for a light weight aluminum spool. Although both were offered, the standard 1993 sales fell off rapidly as the newer “L” version took off. In fact, due to its limited sales volume, the standard version production was never reinstated after stoppage in 1942 of all non war production. The photo #2 clearly shows no “L”. This model has the aperture with slideable cover on the face plate added in1936 (photo 3). The non tapered base is attached with Phillips screws (photo 4) versus slotted screws like on item 20 in this auction. This has the domed extra pawl screw …it was made flatter in 1940. The bearing caps are deep red versus black in the 1931-35 series (photo ( photo 5 /arrow) . The bag is absolutely pristine and could not be upgraded (photos9 and 10). Most auctions involve the high volume “L” version. This “standard 1993” has become a very “tough find”in our hobby. Comparing this model to the one in lot 20 of this auction might be of interest to a potential bidder.SHIPPING COST & INFORMATION:16.00 for packing material, box and priority postage and insurance domestically.SELLER CONTACT:quixpres@msn.com
